ACCOUNTANT – DURBAN – KWAZULU NATAL Full Time

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Financial Management

• Produce and distribute monthly management reports to agreed time scales
• Produce detailed quarterly cash flow forecasts to form the basis for the working capital.
• Produce financial reports detailing actual expenditure against forecast to agreed timescales
• Produce required financial reports for members of the team and Board of Directors
• Produce annual financial reports and statements to agreed time scales to comply with the requirements of the client and the South African legal framework.
• Develop annual budgets in collaboration with the Directors.
• Lead on tax planning, including VAT related matters.
• Maintain current standing with all mandated local tax and benefits registrations and requirements, including submissions of payments and reports (SARS, PBO status, NPO Status etc)
• Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements relating to financial control, financial management and accounting

• Look at ways to improve information, and to highlight areas where there is a huge usage
• Implement and maintain an asset register to ensure each asset is accounted for and can be traced
• To establish, and revise finance policies and procedures to enable the production of financial reports and accounts
• Ensure appropriate external audit arrangements are in place and manage the audit process

• Ensure that all balance sheet reconciliations are produced on an accurate and timely basis to include bank reconciliations, debtors, creditors and inter-company account
• Ensure implementation and adherence to finance policies, procedures and systems across all teams
• Perform functions of financial administration and reporting to include, but not limited to: preparation and timely submission of grant applications and reports, development and adjustment of associated budgets, coordination of budgeted funds, screening and processing requests for expenditures and ensuring the timely application for reimbursement

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Knowledge

Essential

• Qualified accountant (B.Com degree). Candidates with minimum 5 years relevant experience with retail or FMCG experience.
• Must have completed articles.
• Experience in the preparation and finalisation of accounts in accordance with current South African regulations
• Knowledge of strategic and financial planning including activity costing, benchmarking, and KPIs
• Experience in budget preparation and reporting
• Experience in goods and services procurement processes

Desirable

• Knowledge of current practice of internal auditing
• Knowledge of Arch software systems.

Skills

Essential

• Highly numerate and able to analyse statistical information and interpret financial data to produce reports which can be understood by non-financial colleagues
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Computer literate; fully conversant with the current uses of information technology in the workplace and uses IT as a management tool
• Ability to work at both a detailed and strategic level – e.g. making payments and producing annual financial delivery plans etc.
